The adjacent towns of Wailuku and Kahului are Maui’s hubs of commerce and government. They also contain historic buildings, antique stores, and even a gallery or two. Located in Kahului, the Maui Arts & Cultural Center is a $50 million complex whose Schaefer International Gallery hosts exhibitions from around the world. The Center itself has incorporated a number of art installations into its very architecture.

Above Wailuku town, on the way to Iao Valley, the 1833 home of missionary Edward Bailey is where you’ll find the Maui Historical Society, and a museum featuring Bailey’s exceptional paintings of 19th-century Maui.
